Time For Some R & R...

The life a musician never slows and the concept of a "break" is extremely alien...

The new job is amazing!!  The youth services division is incredible and the level of progressiveness that these people are displaying is freakin' sweet!  Needless to say that I'm really enjoying what I'm doing and it's a job that is going to be productive and positive.  The changes that we are making are going to be astounding and the newly revamped "hang-out" for the kids is going to be intense.

This post is going to be short, but there will definitely be more after the break!  I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!  Safe travels and see you all after the food induced coma wears off!!

No. 27 And A Night Of Sweet Suites...

...and the Yankees led the way, through game six and beyond...

Yes, they won, and there'll be no gloating or gross celebrations...(ok, maybe just a tiny bit).  It was a great series and both teams are deserved of much praise for their superior athleticism and prowess.  I had a great time watching each game.  Viewing the game in HD was especially cool!  Never seen a series like that before, so it was definitely a treat.

The week has been fairly steady with work.  I've been working with some students at a local junior high here in town.  The afternoons spent at the club have been mildly productive and the students in the tech-lab are making progress.  The gig I played Thursday night was freakin' sweet!  The trio played for a benefit dinner.  The music sounded great in the house and the event couldn't have gone smoother.  It truly was the ideal gig laced with great pay, exquisite food, and a gracious audience and host organization.  If only the music "business" world could operate in that fashion all the time...*sigh*...

My week ended this evening after attending the senior recital of a friend and colleague.  Her musicality was truly present this evening as she entertained an over packed recital hall filled with friends, family, and fellow musicians.  I was very pleased with her performance and was so happy that she had a great time performing.  Too often I see, or experience, a musician's performance suffer due to some type of apprehension, or lacking in confidence.  They cease to have any enjoyment from the music and in turn, their ability to simply have a good time playing said music becomes lost.  Tonight was anything but a prime example.  She was poised, calm, confident, and musical!  I wish her the best in her career endeavors and her progress as a musician.  Thanks to her for providing such a wonderfully musical evening for us all.

I hope wherever you are there are musicians who enjoy sharing and living the music.  Give them your love, your attention, and your ears...we all love it when we know someone is enjoying the ideas, emotions, and notes we are expressing.

New And Exciting...Everyday...

This cocoa is really yummy.  Kicking back in the la-z-boy, watching game four of the world series, rooting for the Yankees, and enjoying a quiet weekend at home...how could it get any better...

Halloween weekend 2009 passed quietly, which was a pleasant surprise when compared to years passed.  Spent most of the evening watching game three of the series and loving the fact that NY took the lead 2 - 1 and kept the fire burning in Philadelphia.  Both teams are incredible and all the players are fired up to make a run for the championship.  Needless to say, it is a great game this year.  (Go Yankees!!!)

In the job market, within the last 3 days, there have been a couple of new developments.  My current job, the office assistant, is going to take a turn and, ultimately, end.  After only a week behind the desk I'm taking my leave and making my way towards the town of Ignacio to work for SUCAP.  The South Ute Community Action Program was in need of a teen coordinator and I just happened to fit the bill.  I'm really excited to be a part of this team.  Everyone that is associated with this organization is progressive, positive thinking, and dedicated.  Just like the Boys & Girls club, the teen program in Ignacio is the next step to making progress in my educational career.  The benefits are great as well.  This job is salaried, has health insurance, is paying mileage and, upon completion of the job's term, will provide an educational stipend which I can use towards my master's degree.  I simply can't turn it down and it is definitely the job for which I've been searching.  Starting Tuesday it's a whole new ball game...so to speak.  The week should be interesting and can't wait to see where the new opportunity takes me.

Musically, I was sounding fairly decent playing Thursday afternoon.  Lead with the big band is a unique experience and it's definitely taking it's toll.  I'm finding that I have to work twice as hard to keep my solo chair chops in shape and keeping that dark sound that I love is even harder since I started playing lead.  For those of you out there who want to play lead but love that dark solo sound, remember that lead playing is bright, and it takes lots of practicing in both facets to keep them alive and healthy...and in balance.  Lots of long tones and warm downs to keep that darker sound is what it's taking to keep my sound dark when I need it to be.  Damn, who knew it would be long tones and flexibility studies that keep my playing the way I want to play.

Loving every minute of it and making the most of each day is where I am right now.  Just have to stay positive and stay consistent.  Making music one note at a time and taking it one day at a time.  We'll see what happens next...
